Can I claim from medical aid for my sessions?

Can I benefit from art therapy if I am not an artist?

What can I expect in an art therapy session?

You may feel vulnerable during the art therapy process and sometimes it takes courage to talk to an art therapist. However, I can offer you a relaxed, non-judgmental space where you will be supported no matter what your situation or background is. You will not be forced into anything you feel uncomfortable with. All information shared with me is confidential and we will speak about this in more detail.

What are the fees?

How long are the sessions?

How many sessions will I need?

Absolutely! Even if you do not see yourself as an ‘artist’ you can benefit from art therapy. Although art therapy involves using art materials, you will be focusing on the process of creating as opposed to the outcome of the final product. See, ‘What is art therapy?’ for more details on this.

Individual Sessions are 50-minutes long. First appointments may take a bit longer.

Art therapy is a unique and tailor-made process; therefore the number of sessions may vary depending on your concerns and therapeutic goals. This may be discussed with me at any time throughout the process.

Yes, absolutely! I have had a lot of experience working online (even before COVID!). However, please ensure that you have a good internet connection and are able to find a quiet, private space. I can provide online sessions via most online platforms, such as Zoom , Skype, Google Teams, and Whatsapp video.

As my practice is registered with the HPSCA, you will be able to claim back from certain medical aid schemes.

Do you offer online sessions?

The fees are market related and will be sent to you on request.

How can I become an Art Therapist?

In order to practice art therapy in South Africa you will need to complete a Master's degree in art therapy and you are legally required to be registered with the HPCSA. Contact the University of Johannesburg (UJ) for more details on their BA Honours and Master's Art Therapy programme.
